Supongo que todos los fans de Battlestar Galactica lo hemos pensado alguna vez. Es una serie con irregularidades, fallos de guión, algún actor suelto "un poco" malo, vueltas de tuerca que arruinan algún episodio... Sin embargo, hay que reconocer que, pese a todas esas cosas, es una serie genial, por otros aspectos muy importantes.
Porque tiene la osadía de enfrentarse con temas tabú, de manera directa. Los asesinos suicidas, la prohibición del aborto, el exterminio de masas, las armas biológicas... Y es más, esas decisiones las toman "los buenos".
Porque habla de política, de guerra, de traición, de amor, y de ciencia ficción sin que nada de eso rechine, y todas esas piezas encajan de una manera asombrosa. Siempre pensé que una serie de este tipo me aburriría (nunca me atrajeron los rollos tipo Star Trek).
Porque no hay un tema de ficción más grande que la supervivencia de la Humanidad, casi aniquilada y perseguida por su propia creación.
Porque los protagonistas absolutos (y en esta primera parte de la 4ª temporada, más) son dos actores absolutamente geniales, que el cine tenía algo olvidados: Edward James Olmos y Mary McDonnell. Mientras en cualquier otra serie los actorcillos sobreactúan para decir chorradas, estos dos gigantes son capaces de demostrarlo TODO con un gesto mínimo. EJO es famoso por su parquedad de expresión, y simplemente el inicio de una sonrisa en la comisura de su boca, ilumina la habitación. MARY nos enamoró en Bailando con Lobos, y desde entonces, nos emociona cada vez que sus arruguillas se acentúan, porque llena de vida sus hermosos ojos verdes. ¡Vivan las patas de gallo!
Pero la razón por la que pienso que esta serie es la historia más grande jamás contada en televisión, es porque han tenido la osadía de mostrar una relación entre dos personas maduras (cincuenta y tantos ella, sesenta y muchos él), de una manera original, nada previsible. Con un feeling entre los dos actores muy especial desde el principio, cada escena que han compartido es una danza perfecta. La tensión sexual apareció muy pronto, pero nadie daba nada por ellos. Las relaciones entre los personajes jóvenes eran más llamativas, y seguro que daban más audiencia. Sin embargo, poco a poco fueron apostando por ellos, hasta llegar a la situación actual. Aunque diez minutos antes estemos viendo explosiones nucleares y asesinatos sin escrúpulos, esta serie rebosa romanticismo. Nunca se vio en la televisión un "I love you" o un "I can't live without her" mejor interpretados.

I think we all wonder what happened on New Caprica, between Laura and Bill. Early in the afternoon they were together, and the following morning they were still together, wearing the same clothes.
In one of the deleted scenes, we can see Bill and Laura, relaxed on a blanket and some cushions. They are outside a tent, and inside it there are some carpets and maybe a leather sofa. They can’t be outside somebody else's tent. It has to be Laura’s.
At the end of this scene, Laura, who has given Bill her particular “Carpe diem” message, half-closes her eyes. It seems that sleep is beginning to consume her. What happened later?
HOW THE NIGHT IN NEW CAPRICA ENDED
That night was special, probably the most beautiful night since years before the holocaust. It was great to smoke peacefully, with Laura leaning on his chest. He was thinking about whether or not to kiss her. She hadn’t spoken for a while, maybe she was thinking that too. Her breathing was slow now, ¡she was very calm! Wait a moment... ¡She was sleeping!
So Bill, being a true gentleman, got up...holding her, so that she didn’t fall to the ground. He took her in his arms, holding her firmly and enjoying the feeling, and entered the tent.
The bed wasn’t too narrow, and it was tempting. Carefully, he laid her on it and covered her with a blanket. He looked at her face; she seemed younger, and a little smile gave her a great gentleness. Without thinking, he bent down and brushed her lips with his, pressing them lightly. She murmured something in her dreams. “Mmmmm," She said.
Bill, who was very sleepy too, laid beside her, not turning it over in his head any longer. The last thing he did before falling sleep was snuggle up to her; taking her by the waist.
